This 5 ingredient apple cider old fashioned cocktail recipe…let me tell you…it’s crazy delicious and perfect for fall (or any time of year). In fact, let’s just say testing this particular cocktail recipe was super fun, because I could not stop drinking them, and it’s perfect for this week’s Five Ingredient Friday! TGIF!

One fall afternoon, with the leaves turning colors and a crispness in the air, my hubby and I decided to do what every other resident in a 100 mile radius decided to do: go to an apple orchard. There was a mile-long line just to get into the parking lot! By the time we did so, it was so packed that I told him to just wait in the car, and that I’d just go run in and get some cider. Not even kidding. I think by the time he had made it close to finding a spot, I was back in the car, with my cider.

When we got home I was really ready for a cocktail.

I don’t know if you know this, but in the state of Wisconsin, old fashioned cocktails are kinda a big deal. They’re a staple at parties and on cocktail bar menus everywhere.

When I shared my recipe for a Wisconsin brandy old fashioned sour years ago, I meant it when I said it tastes different everywhere you go when you’re not in the state of Wisconsin. I learned that classic old fashioned cocktails are made with bourbon instead of brandy.

With old fashioneds on the brain, I decided to play around with using apple cinder. Seriously, THIS is my new fave fall cocktail. It’s like it was always meant to be made like this. The apple cider and bourbon pair perfectly, and the bitters and fresh apple make an all-around balanced cocktail.
