This 5 ingredient oven baked pork chop recipe with mozzarella crumb topping is a budget friendly meal that the whole family will enjoy! Pork chops are topped with a delicious crunchy/cheesy mozzarella topping which reminds me of chicken parmesan, but without the marinara. (By the way, this is one of my favorite chicken parmesan recipes-another one of my 5 Ingredient recipes).
Pork is a great protein for the whole family. My 3 year old toddler loves pork chops, and I have heard from other mom friends that their kids love pork too, so these pork chops are definitely a kid friendly dinner recipe! I also love that pork chops are super affordable and often on sale at the grocery store.
This 5 ingredient dinner recipe involves only five simple ingredients:
- Pork chops
- Breadcrumbs (I like using Italian seasoned or Italian seasoned Panko)
- Mozzarella cheese
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Garlic salt
To make this dish, get out your favorite baking sheet and set a cookie cooling wire rack on top and simply set the pork chops on top. You want to use a wire rack so air circulates underneath and you don’t get any soggy bottoms (but it you don’t have one putting them directly on a baking sheet is ok too).
Top the pork chop with a little olive oil and sprinkle garlic salt on. To note, this recipe calls for a pretty generous amount of garlic salt. I love that, but if you prefer a bit less, then just cut the amount by a bit!
After you’ve seasoned the pork, spread breadcrumbs on top. I always use Panko breadcrumbs (Japanese breadcrumbs, sold at the store next to the regular breadcrumbs usually) and, for this recipe, I used the Italian seasoned Panko. If you only have plain Panko breadcrumbs (or plain breadcrumbs) on hand, just add in some simple Italian seasoning to help boost the flavor.
After bread crumbs come cheese! Yum! Top each bit of pork with a healthy handful or mozzarella.
The cook time for the pork will depend on the thickness of your pork chops, but I cooked mine for about 20 minutes. Pork is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 160 with a 3 minute rest time.
You could make these pork chops in an air fryer (400 for 12 minutes).
These 5 ingredient oven baked pork chops with a mozzarella crumb topping make a delicious easy meal, I like to serve a side salad or a little bit of balsamic roasted vegetables on the side. These baked bone in pork chops will become your new favorite way to make pork chops!

What would be good to serve with these pork chops? I’m looking to prepare a special meal for my husband.

That’s so sweet you’re preparing a special meal for him! I like to do either roasted or mashed potatoes and then roasted broccoli or balsamic glazed veggies and a side salad. I have a round up of side dish recipes https://sweetphi.com/side-dishes-recipe-roundup/ – please let me know if I can help find a specific recipe or anything else 🙂

Just wondering-when do you bake on the middle shelf and when on the lower shelf in the oven? Does this recipe cook best on the lower shelf?
Sweetphi says
Hi Nancy, thanks for your question. I have baked this recipe on the middle shelf, haven’t tested it on a lower shelf but I’d assume it would be very similar, so I think you’d be fine with either 🙂
