Today I’m sharing a super delicious chocolate milkshake recipe for kids (it could also be enjoyed as a chocolate smoothie) and how to have a fun night with milkshakes at home.

Easy and delicious chocolate milkshake recipe for kids this image

I wasn’t sure if I was going to publish this recipe.  It is so delicious, but I just couldn’t decide if you would all want to make it. It’s a chocolate milkshake recipe, but it’s also like a chocolate smoothie recipe (it’s naturally sweetened with dates.  But then a friend of mine told me this story that made me say “awwww, that’s fun” and I decided it would be a perfect post to share!

Toddler helping make smoothies

I made a 5 ingredient chocolate date milkshake and I’m sharing how to have a fun night with milkshakes at home. I hope you enjoy seeing my new kitchen helper, he insists on doing everything so he made the entire milkshake recipe himself!

Kids in the kitchen making milkshakes

I was talking to my friend and she was telling me about when she was younger, she distinctly remembers when her Dad would get the blender out, she and her sisters would get so excited.  He would pull out vanilla ice cream and milk and a whole array of extracts/flavors and syrups.  Root beer and banana were her Dad’s favorites but she was a chocolate girl!

How to make the best chocolate milkshake for kids

Since she loved chocolate, I told her about this recipe and she thought it sounded amazing, so here we are; chocolate date milkshakes or chocolate milkshakes for kids. It’s a healthy version with no sugar added (the dates are naturally sweet, so they make this shake sweet and rich and delicious!)

Super easy chocolate milkshake for kids

This shake is made by blending dates, cocoa powder, a frozen banana, ice and milk (dairy free if desired) together. It forms this cold chocolatey shake/smoothie recipe that is so so good, any time of the day. I will say a high powered blender definitely makes this a success by making it super smooth. I use this blender (a little pricey but I’ve had it for 8 years + and it’s always been amazing).

Kids ice cream scoop play set

Ben has this ice cream toy set that he absolutely loves.  Fredde and Frankie even grab the ice cream scoops and try to ‘eat’ them too.  So, ice cream is clearly a favorite in our house!

Toddler being goofy with milkshake

As we’re all still spending tons of time at home, I encourage you to make a fun ice cream shop night at home with the kids!  Surprise them after dinner with an array of flavors and let them help put them in the blender.  You never know, they just may remember it 25 years later.
