April has was a little bit slower a month for reading/listening, but even with it being a bit slower, I managed to read or listen and finish 6 books! So in todays’ post I’m sharing everything I read and listened to in April 2023.
- Happy Place by Emily Henry 5/5-fave book I’ve listened to all year, highly highly recommend, it’s a fun very well written romance.”Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blissful week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.”
- The Creative Act by Rick Ruben 5/5 – so good if you do any kind of creative work! I found myself opening up this book at random points and it seemed like no matter where I opened it, there was something inspiring. “From the legendary music producer, a master at helping people connect with the wellsprings of their creativity, comes a beautifully crafted book many years in the making that offers that same deep wisdom to all of us.”
- Greenlights by Matthew Mcconaughey 4.5/5 – super fascinating and surprising good, I read this and loved the pictures. Most surprised by how there was life lessons in there and it was just all acting stuff. A friend listened to it and didn’t enjoy it, but had only read the first part- I’d definitely put this in one of the better memoirs I’ve read! “Number-one New York Times Best Seller Discover the life-changing memoir that has inspired millions of readers through the Academy Award-winning actor’s unflinching honesty, unconventional wisdom, and lessons learned the hard way about living with greater satisfaction.”
- Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson 3/5 – kind of boring and repetitive I thought, don’t understand the rave reviews I’ve read about this (I didn’t laugh once) I read this, not listened to it, maybe I was rushing it a bit because the library had it as a 14 day loan because it was ‘so popular’ who knows, just didn’t like. “A deliciously funny, sharply observed debut of family, love, and class, this zeitgeisty novel follows three women in one wealthy Brooklyn clan”
- Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin 2.5/5 – everyone raved about this book, like, it was on peoples’ ‘best book I read in 22’ lists…I really didn’t like it. Boring and the characters I felt like had the chance to develop and just didn’t. UGH, this was one I listened to as an audiobook. “In this exhilarating novel by the best-selling author of The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry two friends—often in love, but never lovers—come together as creative partners in the world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality.”
- Million Dollar Consulting by Alan weiss 4.5-5/5 – Lots of useful information if you’re freelance or want to do consulting I’d highly highly recommend. I read this paperback and have lots highlighted…it inspired me to offer consulting, and I already had 2 clients! “Build a thriving 21st-century consultancy with an all-new edition of the classic bestseller”
How was your reading month? Did you read anything good? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. This next month I’m reading Demon Cooperhead which has come very highly recommended (I snagged a copy at the library off the short term loans desk so I need to hurry through it.)
