Seasoned Oyster Crackers

Oct 22, 2021 · 19 Comments

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This recipe for seasoned oyster crackers is a super simple snack that you won’t be able to stop eating!  A friend of mine shared it with me and it’s so good. These tiny, crunchy snacks are packed with flavor and so easy to make. They’re perfect for holiday parties, game-day snacking, or just keeping on hand for a savory, salty bite.

Why You’ll Love Them

  • Quick and Easy: This recipe comes together in less than 30 minutes, with just a few pantry staples.
  • Addictively Delicious: Each bite is loaded with a savory, herby punch that keeps you coming back for more.
  • Budget-Friendly: Made with inexpensive ingredients, it’s a snack that’s kind to your wallet.
  • Versatile: Enjoy them solo, or pair them with soups, salads, or charcuterie boards.

Ingredients for seasoned oyster crackers

What ingredients do I need to make seasoned oyster crackers?

  • Buttermilk Ranch dip mix (each are .4oz)
  • Dill weed
  • Vegetable oil
  • Lemon pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Oyster crackers (the small ones) – about 5 cups

Mixing ingredients in glass mixing bowl

When I was recipe testing, the first time I made these, I tasted them and they immediately reminded me of the flavor of Gardettos.  And that is a winner in my book.

Customizations

  • Spicy: Add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Cheesy: Sprinkle with grated Parmesan after baking for a cheesy twist.
  • Herby: Mix in Italian seasoning or your favorite dried herbs.
  • Sweet and Savory: Toss with a little brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon for a unique twist.

Tips for Success

  • Even Coating: Toss the crackers gently but thoroughly to ensure every piece is coated with the seasoning mix.
  • Low and Slow: Baking at a low temperature ensures the seasoning sticks without burning.
  • Stir Midway: Stir the crackers halfway through baking to keep them evenly crisp.

This recipe is very flavorful.  If you prefer a less strong flavor, you can use half the amount of seasoning.

How to make seasoned oyster crackers:

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
  2. Pour oil into bowl. Add ranch dip and other spices.
  3. Pour over crackers and stir until coated.
  4. Dump on baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 15-20, stirring after 10 minutes.
  6. Let cool and enjoy!

What can I use these crackers for?

  • I love to use them as croutons on a salad, like this one.
  • They taste great in soup – a few of my favorite soup recipes below:
    • Butternut squash soup
    • Instant Pot sausage sweet potato soup
    • Tomato, white bean and noodle soup
  • Or just enjoy them on their own!

Serving Suggestions

  • Snack Bowls: Set these out for holiday gatherings or game-day spreads.
  • Soup Topper: Sprinkle them over creamy tomato soup or clam chowder for extra crunch.
  • Salad Croutons: Use them to add flavor and texture to any salad.
  • Cheese Boards: Pair them with cheese, cured meats, and pickles for a crowd-pleasing appetizer (like this snack board)

These seasoned oyster crackers are a snack you can make over and over again.  They taste great for days after making them, but I doubt they’ll last that long!

The oil and seasonings get baked into the crackers, they probably would be fine without baking but with the baking everything adheres together better 🙂
