This past month absolutely FLEW by for me. I read 10 books total, and 5 were 5 stars! Admittedly, I re-read some favorites in paperback that I had listened to a few years ago, and OMG, they were just as good and maybe even better because I feel like I was paying more attention/catching more detail, and just wow, books that got 5/5 stars deserve like 10/5 stars lol. If you want to check out my past reviews, they’re right here. Oh, and I finally joined Goodreads in December and loaded in all my books—let’s be bookish besties! Here’s my profile. My rating system is at the bottom. Now, let’s dive in!
The Fall Risk 5/5 – one of my fave authors and fave narrators, a quick and cute story, I loved his profession and talk of trees -so fascinating- and the puns, loved the puns! I wish it was longer lol. “Two good neighbors make the best of a bad Valentine’s Day in a funny and improbably romantic short story by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Just for the Summer.”
Scythe and Sparrow 4.5/5– lots of warning before book starts but she does say in all fairness it’s about a serial killer and doctor falling in love so it’s bound to be dark. Listened to this, it’s lovely, accent on the male lead is fantastic. And I liked this dark/weird/dirty little number!! But fair warning, it’s weird and dark, but good!! Some of it was a little spicy/not quite my taste but it really made sense for the characters. And Barbara, I lol’d, what a funny character! This was the third in a series, I didn’t read the others and don’t think you need to to enjoy this book. “Scythe & Sparrow: The Ruinous Love Trilogy is a sweeping, slow-burn romance set in a crumbling world where a ruthless reaper and a defiant healer must choose between saving each other or saving everyone else.”
Wild Side 5/5– same female narrator as Scythe & Sparrow– was great! Omg this story! I LOVED it so so much, it was so unique and engaging and spicy, I LOVED that the characters were a little older in life. God was Rhys swoon worthy! What a sexy male lead! Did not know that this was 3rd in a series, lol, made me go and purchase the other books in the series because this one was so good, I wouldn’t say you need to read the others to know what was going on, I sure didn’t. “Tabitha Garrison enters a marriage of convenience with the enigmatic and brooding Rhys Dupris to secure custody of her nephew, leading to unexpected romantic tensions and revelations.”
Book Lovers 5/5– one of my favorite books ever! Like top 3!! I read it after listening to the audiobook, so much I missed years ago, bought all her books on sale at target. Such a good story, so well written and funny!!! Loved the different kind of story, wasn’t your typical love story, older characters and had hallmark troupe in it – where guy goes to small town and falls in love, this is what happens to his city girl ex. “Book Lovers by Emily Henry is a witty, emotionally rich romance about a cutthroat literary agent and a brooding editor who keep running into each other in a small town—and discover that real life doesn’t always follow the tropes.”
Beach Read-5/5– gah was this good! I last read this in 2020! I completely forgot the ending and it was so much better than I remembered/forgot! “A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.”
Funny Story 5/5– another win, I don’t know how she writes such great stories. I read this in a day and a half/ on vacation, stayed up late reading it, it was that engaging.
Deep End 4/5 – totally found myself smiling at parts of this. Very Spicy number but the characters had such great chemistry! Loved all the little Swedish things mixed in and Lukes sexy smart character! “A competitive diver and an ace swimmer jump into forbidden waters in this steamy college romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis.”
The Charlie Method 2/5– I’m embarrassed to admit I read and finished this book lol. I had forgotten how spicy this author was! This book is suuuuuper spicy-opening scene is the main character getting it on in a car. I also don’t love young characters- they were in college, 21, it’s just so hard to relate and I don’t really want to think about being in college problems. I mostly kept reading because I was like where is the author going with this love triangle!! “College senior Charlotte “Charlie” Kingston leads a double life as a diligent biomedical engineering student by day and a thrill-seeking daredevil by night, leading to a passionate and complex relationship with two Briar U hockey players, Will Larsen and Beckett Dunne.”
Dead Money 3.5/5 -nice thriller type book with twists and turns, but I could see that ending coming from a mile away so it was a little unsatisfying. “In Dead Money, Jakob Kerr’s debut thriller, Silicon Valley “fixer” Mackenzie Clyde is thrust into a high-stakes murder investigation when the CEO of a prominent tech startup is killed, leaving behind billions in assets frozen by a “dead money” clause in his will.”
The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year 4.5/5 – cute banter, such a unique and original storyline, loved it, very very mild spice, could have used a little more. “In The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year by Ally Carter, rival mystery authors Maggie Chase and Ethan Wyatt are invited to the English estate of legendary writer Eleanor Ashley for a Christmas gathering, only to find themselves entangled in a locked-room mystery when their host disappears amidst a snowstorm.”
My rating system
