DIY Recipe Binder Tutorial & Templates

Apr 5, 2013 · 6 Comments

Do you have a pile of recipes sitting around in a messy pile? Well I did, and since it is almost spring I decided to organize them and create a recipe binder. I also added a conversion chart on my recipe binder cover page, the free download templates are at the bottom, happy spring cleaning!

DIY Recipe Binder Tutorial this image

Supplies:
Blank Paper
Blank Recipe Templates (click Recipe Page Template )
Page Protectors
Double sided tape
1-2 inch Binder (take into account your binder’s ring style)
Binder Cover Page (click Recipe Binder Cover Template)
Index Tabs (mine had pockets which will be helpful for storing loose recipe before creating recipe pages)

The 5 Main Tabs I created were:
Starters/Soup/Salad, Main Meals, Desserts, Breads, Sides/Misc
Then under main dishes i used post its and created sub categories of: chicken, beef, lamb, fish, pork, vegetarian.
Under Desserts I created sub categories of cookies, bars, brownies, muffins, cakes, cupcakes, pies.

To create the recipe pages I either cut a magazine page and pasted it on a blank sheet of paper with the double sided tape leaving some room for notes, or used the Recipe Page Template and hand wrote the recipes, then put each one in a page protector back to back.

Here are the templates again:

In response to the request to make the template “enterable” you could create data fields for entry in each of the areas.

Is it possible to download your recipe template, then type in the recipe; instead of hand writing it. I downloaded the template, but now it won’t let me type. Thanks!

Hi Rhonda, thanks for the comment! The template is currently a PDF, because if it were a Word document where one could type, the images and fonts wouldn’t open unless they are downloaded on your computer. I’ll see about how to create an interactive template for typing next time!
