I didn’t realize until putting this together how much I read and listened to in January 2024 – 9 books! I re-listened to a favorite after having a few blah reads so there is at least one 5 star on my list lol (there are actually 3 5-stars on my list). If you want to see previous lists, check out the book category.
Wellness -3/5 This one put me in a mopey/blah mood whenever I read it, it was a little long for me, I just didn’t love it and it didn’t live up to all the hype. I did read another review that said around pg 250 it picked up for her, but I never got that pick me up. “NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK AN NPR BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR The New York Times best-selling author of The Nix is back with a poignant and witty novel about a modern marriage and the bonds that keep people together. Mining the absurdities of contemporary society, Wellness reimagines the love story with a healthy dose of insight, irony, and heart.”
The Worst Wingman Ever-5/5 A nice palate cleanser short story, very cute. It’s part of the Improbable Meet Cute Collection. “They’re falling in love, yet they’ve never met. Maybe fate can intervene in a heartwarming “what-if” short story about new beginnings by the New York Times bestselling author of Yours Truly.”
The Quiet Tenant-3/5 very dark, if you like serial killers and thrillers this book is for you. Don’t read it at night if you’re a baby like me, my heart was beating so fast so many times. Nick picked up the book and was going to make a funny joke and the read the book jacket and was like “Phi, this is dark, what are you reading?” lol. “A pulse-pounding psychological thriller about a serial killer narrated by those closest to him: his 13-year-old daughter, his girlfriend – and the one victim he has spared.”
The Simplicity of Cider- 3.5/5– This one moved a little slow for me, but it’s a local author which I always like supporting! “Focused and unassuming fifth generation cider-maker Sanna Lund has one desire: to live a simple, quiet life on her family’s apple orchard in Door County, Wisconsin. Although her business is struggling, Sanna remains fiercely devoted to the orchard, despite her brother’s attempts to convince their aging father to sell the land.”
Forever Never -3.5/5 -Very smutty like a dirty lifetime movie. So much sex though, think unrealistic and perpetual hard on by the guy lol. “You don’t fall for your brother’s high school sweetheart, your boss’ daughter, or your ex-wife’s best friend. Especially when they’re all the same woman. Under Brick Callan’s mile-wide chest beats a loyal heart with a few cracks in it. He’s the steadfast, overprotective type. Especially when it comes to the one woman he can never have.”
The Burnout -4/5 listened to it, loved the accents, was a cute romance. “Sparks fly in this delightful novel about two burned out professionals who meet at a ramshackle resort on the British seaside—from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher.”
The Only One Left -5/5 – I actually got chills, this book was SO GOOD!! Definitely a thriller worth reading. “Bestselling author Riley Sager returns with a Gothic chiller about a young caregiver assigned to work for a woman accused of a Lizzie Borden-like massacre decades earlier.”
Seven Year Slip– 4/5 – I thought I was going to like this book more than I actually did based on the hype and endorsements. But it was cute, I just don’t *love* stories that are not 100% reality based lol, though I did love the Lost Bookshop, so who knows. “An overworked book publicist with a perfectly planned future hits a snag when she falls in love with her temporary roommate…only to discover he lives seven years in the past, in this witty and wise new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Dead Romantics.”
Book Lovers-5/5 I needed something good and light after some mehs, so glad I reread it, I give it 5 stars all over again!! “Book Lovers is a delightful exploration of love, connection, and the magic of literature, as two avid readers navigate the chapters of their own story with humor, heart, and a shared passion for books.” This book, so good, it made me laugh and cry and is just delightful!
