Family Meal Plan (Real Life Edition) – March

Mar 26, 2026 · Leave a Comment

Welcome to the latest Family Meal Plan (Real Life Edition) – a flexible, doable look at what we actually ate this week, as a family of 6. This isn’t a perfectly curated plan or a “cook every night” situation. It’s easy recipes, repeat meals, a pizza night or dinner out, and a plan that works around real life. I share breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, and a full cost breakdown so you can see how it all comes together during busy days.

Breakfasts this week

  • These amazing breakfast tacos (only 5 ingredients) – and I served avocado with them
  • Made a batch of these berry muffins for throughout the week
  • On the weekends my husband Nick made a double batch of these fluffy pancakes so that there’d be plenty of leftovers for the freezer – for a quick breakfast for the kids!

Lunches this week

  • Sandwiches (we had a DIY sandwich bar for dinner and leftovers for lunches, so fun!)
  • Leftovers

Dinners this week

  • Wedge salad and frozen pizza, one of my favorites of the week!
  • We made these sheet pan chicken kabobs subbed beef/lamb instead of chicken, we actually liked the chicken better!!

  • Nick (my husband) picked up stuff for a DIY sandwich bar, and wow, this was so fun, everyone loved! I had hurt my back and just couldn’t move to cook, and this was perfection – and seriously, everyone loved!!
  • It’s weird, but some of my kids love soup! We had this sausage tortellini tomato soup I will say next time I’ll probably make some garlic bread to go on the side!
  • This 5 ingredient chicken gnocchi with alfredo pesto was delish (and so easy to make) loved by me and Sam, not so much by the other kids or Nick if I’m being honest. I think I’ll try again when they’re a little older because they all love the components of it (like chicken, gnocchi, alfredo), just maybe not mixed together.
  • We had Mexican food and burgers takeout (we love Oscars, you just can’t beat their prices for our family), it was a busy weeks so going out + frozen pizza were definitely on the menu this week lol, also explains the higher cost.

When you don’t feel like thinking about dinner- Hungryroot has really simple recipes and healthy groceries!! I just restarted my subscription!

Snacks this week

  • Chocolate coin – made these because I had a little melted chocolate leftover, you can top them with anything, they’re so fun! This time I did mini marshmallows and pecans.
  • The best salted caramel chocolate chip cookies – one of our faves! I made cookies for Ben and his friends.

The cost breakdown:

  • Groceries: $148 – Aldi, $57 Sendiks for specialty sandwich stuff
  • Restaurant: Mexican food night out $120, burgers from Oscars $54
  • Total for the week: $379
