This tempeh bowls recipe is super easy to put together and might surprise you with new flavors.Ā And if you’re anything like Nick (Phi’s husband), you’ll see that tempeh will surprise you and might become a new favorite!
What is Tempeh?
- Tempeh is a plant based protein made of fermented soybeans.Ā Tempeh is a high fiber food and packed with other valuable minerals and vitamins.
- You can get tempeh as easily as a trip to Target.
Is Tempeh different than tofu
- While both are great plant-based solutions made from soybeans, tempeh uses a whole soybean product that provide different nutrition and textural elements than tofu.Ā Tempeh also is a bit chewier with a more distinct nutty/earthy flavor, whereas tofu is more neutral.

To make the tempeh in this tempeh bowls recipe, you simply start this recipe by marinating slices of tempeh in a mixture of maple syrup and soy sauce (or tamari if you prefer to eat Gluten Free) then fry in a pan.

This recipe calls for cauliflower, red onion, carrots and sweet potato but you can use what vegetables you have on hand.Ā Add some salt and garlic powder and roast away!

And the thing that ties it all together?Ā This dressing/sauce.Ā It’s a simple combination of:
- jalapeƱo
- garlic clove
- almond butter
- coconut milk
- red wine vinegar
- honey

Roasted vegetables, simple seasonings, tempeh and a delicious dressing combine to make this recipe one that will surprise you!
When you find that you love tempeh, you can try one of my favorite tofu bowls as well.
