Taco Pizza Recipe

If you’re looking for the best taco pizza recipe you’re in the right place. I cannot tell you how much my entire family loved this pizza – everyone ate veggies, toppings like lettuce, tomatoes and all. This is a great way to get kids to try new foods and incorporate veggies and protein (beans and ground beef) into their diets.

When we make tacos, I always tend to make plenty of meat so we have leftovers.  Most often, we just make tacos on another night because we all love them, but this week, I made a taco pizza recipe and it is so good! It’s yet another recipe I should add to my list of how to get kids to eat what you’re eating and the best recipes to make with kids in the kitchen (my toddler helped chop toppings and make this pizza).

The most delicious ingredients for a taco pizza

To me, this is the perfect marriage of two wonderful foods; tacos and pizza!  What’s not to love?  Both of those foods are ones that kids love, so it was no surprise to me that Ben, Freddie and Frankie all loved the taco pizza as much as Nick and I. For them, I of course, just cut it up into small pieces.

Kids and babies eating taco pizza

Like any good pizza, you can pick off toppings that you don’t like.  So, again, that’s a great bonus for kids.  For example, Ben doesn’t like lettuce, so he just picks it right off and enjoys.

How to make the best taco pizza

I’ve certainly had taco pizzas before, but a lot of times, they are loaded so high that you can’t even pick them up without all of the toppings falling off.  Then it just basically becomes a taco salad, haha!  One of the things I love about this recipe is that the ratio of toppings to pizza base works, so it’s actually easy to eat.

The most amazing recipe for an easy taco pizza

To make this pizza, you can make your own crust or simply buy a pre-made one from the store.  When making my taco pizza, I used this recipe for the crust, but halved it.  Another great option would be using my recipe for whole wheat pizza crust.

The best ever taco pizza

Once the crust is made, spread the beans onto the pizza and add cheese and taco meat (you can use leftover taco meat, cook some up, or use rotisserie chicken.  It’s as simple as that!

How to make the best taco pizza that is super easy

When it bakes chop up the toppings of lettuce, tomatoes, and cilantro, and make a lime-crema sauce (which is just lime juice and sour cream mixed with a little water).

The best taco pizza recipe to make for a family

As soon as the pizza is done baking, remove it from the oven and either add toppings or serve the toppings on the side!

Toddler approved taco pizza

To serve the pizza, cut in squares instead of triangle slices because that is what helps keep the toppings from falling off.  And I suggest that you enjoy all of this delicious pizza on the night you make it because it is not good as leftovers. However, if you want to enjoy this a day later, just add toppings to the slices you put on your plate instead of topping the whole pizza.

Next pizza night, I’d recommend making this taco pizza, it’ll surely become a favorite all around!

Notes

* I used my sheet pan pizza recipe and halved it. Here is the pizza dough recipe:
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 3/4 cups -2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
In a large bowl combine warm water and yeast, allow to rest for 5 minutes until the yeast starts to bubble. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve.
Add in the salt, olive oil and 1 3/4 cups ap flour. Mix well with a wooden spoon or dough attachment on a stand mixer - may need a little more flour if your dough is sticky.
Knead dough with hands for a few minutes. Put in a bowl, cover bowl with plastic wrap and allow to rest until doubled in size (about an hour to two hours).
Place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out to pan size.
Par bake for 6 minutes at 400 before adding toppings.
