This seasonal snack mix is so fun because it can be made for almost any holiday.  All you have to do to make it festive is switch out the colors of the M&Ms!

Using yellow, brown and orange M&Ms is great for Halloween, any Fall festivity or even Thanksgiving.  When it comes around to Christmas, switch things up with red and green candies.  Another great option?  Baby showers or gender reveal parties.  Find some pink and blue candies and have some fun!

Ingredients for halloween snack mix

What ingredients do you need to make this recipe?

  • Popped popcorn
  • Rice Chex cereal
  • Mini pretzels
  • Honey roasted peanuts
  • White chocolate morsels
  • Vegetable shortening or vegetable oil – this is used so chocolate doesn’t get hard
  • M&Ms – or any coated candy in festive colors!

There are so many opportunities for substitutions in this snack mix, making it so easy to make:

  • Cheerios instead of popcorn – a great option for young kids
  • Milk chocolate instead of white chocolate
  • Vegetable shortening or vegetable oil
  • Any coated candy – Reese’s pieces would be fun for Halloween or any other coated candy, depending on the color needed.
  • Switch up the nuts – walnuts or pecans would be great too

How do I make this snack mix?

  1. Melt white chocolate and vegetable oil.
  2. Combine popped popcorn, Rice Chex cereal, pretzels and honey roasted peanuts. Stir.
  3. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or wax paper or a silicone baking mat.
  4. Drizzle white chocolate mixture over bowl with mixed popcorn, Chex, pretzels and peanuts. Stir gently with a spatula until well combined.
  5. Pour onto baking sheet and sprinkle with M&Ms. Allow to cool completely, break up into chunks, store in an airtight container or bag.

Snack mixes with seasonal colors

When making your seasonal snack mix, make sure to add the m&ms at end so they don’t totally melt.  And if you’re not going to eat it all in one sitting, you can keep it for up to a week in an airtight container.

Pro-tip for Christmas:  put this mix in a festive bag to give as a tasty food gift.  Or make a large batch to serve at a party.

Snack mix with colorful m&ms

I love giving snack mixes as gifts.  In the past, I’ve used my recipe for bananas foster party mix or this amazing chocolate turtle mix.  Sweet and salty is a favorite combination in this household so this recipe was a no-brainer!

This snack mix recipe is based on a recipe in my cookbook for peanut butter popcorn mix.  I made a few tweaks and expanded the recipe to feed plenty of people!
