These 5 ingredient peanut butter Nutella bars are a super easy dessert recipe, perfect for anytime you are in need of a delicious dessert fix!
Peanut butter + Nutella = flavor combination heaven, right? I mean, for real!
I’ve been the biggest fan of Nutella since I can remember. It’s a chocolatey-hazelnutty tasting spread that is truly second to none, and goes on/in everything. In fact, one of my first food-related memories is tasting chocolate-hazelnut gelato while on vacation with my family. It was life changing. It used to be one didn’t see Nutella anywhere except in little specialty grocery stores. Thank God they now carry it everywhere! For these bars, Nutella is the filling between peanut butter cookie dough – so good!
Let me tell you a little bit about this recipe – so last year when I was on the TASTE trips, I met dessert blogger Hayley of The Domestic Rebel, and she told me all about her love of baking and jazzing up boxed mixes, neat concept, right? She’s super witty and tells great stories (like she did when she posted this recipe from my cookbook), so when her cookbook Out of the Box Desserts: Simply Spectacular Semi-Homemade Sweets came out this week, I knew I had to check it out. “Effortless, no-fail baking is within reach! By starting with cake or brownie mixes, ready-made dough and crusts, and other make-it-simple shortcut ingredients, these recipes can be whipped up in no time flat!” Her cookbook features 100 dessert recipes that are semi-homemade and include delicious sounding recipes like Blueberry Muffin Cake, Chocolate Galaxy Cupcakes, and Mimosa Pound Cake that I can’t wait to try. Order a copy of her cookbook today!
If you walked by these bad boys sitting out at a party, you would have no idea that they were filled with Nutella, but after picking one up, you’d see the beautiful chocolate stripe. Trust me, a Nutella filling is the best surprise!
The recipe in the cookbook is officially called Chocolate-Filled Peanut Butter Cookie Bars, and the recipe only calls for premade cookie dough and Nutella spread, but since it is Friday (hello Five-Ingredient Fridays) and I have a super favorite peanut butter cookie recipe in my cookbook and I had all the ingredients on hand, I made the cookie dough (please do whichever option – buying premade cookie dough or making it from scratch- is easiest for you.)

5 Ingredient Peanut Butter Nutella Bars
Ingredients
- 2 cups packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups creamy peanut butter
- 1 13 ounce jar of Nutella or chocolate hazelnut spread of your choosing
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with foil, extending the sides of the foil over the edges of the pan. Spray the foil with with cooking spray and set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and eggs, then whisk in the vanilla.
- With a wooden spoon, stir in the peanut butter until a thick and creamy batter forms; it is ready when no plain peanut butter can be seen and all the ingredients are incorporated.
- Spread half of the peanut butter cookie dough batter into the bottom of the pan and press it into a single, even layer. Spoon the Nutella over the cookie dough layer. You pay want to spoon the Nutella into a separate bowl and microwave it briefly to soften it.
- Top the Nutella layer with the second half of the cookie dough, pressing it into an even layer.
- Bake for approximately 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is mostly set - it may be a little jiggly still; this is ok as it will continue to set as it cools. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares or bars.
