Welcoming a new baby is an incredible time in someone’s life, but it can also be exhausting. One of the kindest ways to support them is by bringing nourishing, easy-to-enjoy meals and snacks. If you’re wondering what to cook for a new mom or what to make for someone in need, I’ve got you covered with simple yet delicious recipes/menu that will make their day a little brighter. These recipes are designed to be easy to prepare, transport, and reheat—perfect for busy new parents or someone in need.
For the mains:
- Yogurt marinated chicken – I grill the chicken and veggies at the same time. You can grill, bake, or cook the chicken on the stovetop
- Balsamic grilled veggies – Use any combination of veggies you’d like. I love doing bell peppers, zucchini and onion.
- Tomato/cucumber salad -Toss chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion with olive oil, white vinegar, lemon juice, salt, and pepper and then add dill and oregano.
- Tzatziki – You can use homemade or store bought
- Couscous – I like the roasted garlic one. Just cook and fluff with a fork.

For breakfast:
- Pumpkin loaf or muffins – I love using this recipe (you can make it GF), and I make it into muffins and put pepitas on top. Nutritious and super delicious. Bake time is shorter with muffins, I’ve added it to the recipe card.
For snacks: After you have a baby, your hormones are all over the place and you’re always hungry (I was). New moms need quick, energy-packed snacks they can grab between feedings or naps. These two options are nutritious, delicious, and incredibly easy to make.
- Simple Trail Mix -Combine pecans, pepitas, dried cranberries, and semi-sweet chocolate chips in a jar or bag for a snack that’s sweet, salty, and satisfying.
- Stuffed Dates -Slice Medjool dates in half and remove the pits. Fill with peanut butter and top with a drizzle of melted semi-sweet chocolate. Chill in the fridge until the chocolate sets. Or these 5 ingredient cookie dough stuffed dates or these no bake oatmeal cookie energy bites

Tips for Delivering Food to a New Mom:
- Use Disposable Containers: To save them from dishwashing duty, deliver meals in containers they don’t need to return.
- Label Everything: Include reheating instructions and a list of ingredients for each dish.
- Offer Flexibility: Some meals can be frozen for later if they’re overwhelmed with food.
By bringing these thoughtful and nourishing dishes, you’re not just feeding a new mom—you’re showing her she’s loved and supported, when I had babies it was the best gift I got, and I still remember to this day who brought me food!
A few other meals to make for someone in need:
- Lasagna – I like making a veggie lasagna but you can also add meat to this recipe easily, ground beef or turkey
- Chicken enchilada casserole
- Beef burritos with zucchini
- Chicken broccoli alfredo freezer meal
