We all have our favorite way to enjoy a margarita—on the rocks, frozen, with or without salt—but I’m here to tell you this jam margaritas recipe (aka jamaritas) might just become your new go-to. Why? Because it’s so easy and honestly kind of genius. If you’ve got a jar of jam hanging out in your fridge, you’re already halfway there. No fancy syrups, no complicated steps—just tequila, fresh lime juice, and your favorite jam shaken together into the most perfectly sweet-tart, flavor-packed margarita. Your solution for a quick and easy homemade cocktail is here: jamaritas. They’re simple, customizable (strawberry, raspberry, peach…you name it!), and perfect for everything from a last-minute happy hour to a laid-back weekend sip.
This is a recipe for margaritas made with jam. You only need 3 ingredients before you are on your way to a super new tasty take on a margarita. I like to call them Jamaritas!
- Tequila
- Lime juice
- Jam

All you need to do to make this super easy margarita is combine all of the ingredients in a glass and shake (or stir)! I love using glasses like these but any ones you have will work!
If you really want to get fancy, you can use a shaker to really blend things together. But, since I’m usually throwing this margarita together as tacos are about to be ready and I don’t have a few extra minutes, I just use a spoon to mix it together and it’s just as tasty!

If you’re getting down to the end of your jam jar, you could also get creative and use the jam jar as a cocktail shaker. Plus, then you’re sure to get all of the yummy jam flavors in your Jamarita.

This cocktail recipe is the perfect option for a busy weeknight cocktail. They are SO GOOD and such an easy margarita recipe.
A few years ago, I shared how to make a margarita bar, which included three different flavor margaritas, but none as simple as this!

This jam margarita is so flexible because you really can use any jam you like. I’ve used strawberry (featured in the photos), but I’ve also tried mixed berry and apricot. You can just pick your favorite! I bet it would be super delicious with a spicy jam as well.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of jam works best for jam margaritas?
Pretty much any jam works here, which is part of the fun! Strawberry, raspberry, peach, and blackberry are all amazing. Use what you have on hand or mix and match for new flavor combos.
Can I use jelly or preserves instead of jam?
Yes! Jam, jelly, or preserves will all work. Just note that preserves may have larger fruit pieces, so you may want to shake a little extra or strain if you prefer a smoother drink.
Do I need to strain the margarita?
It depends on your preference. If you like a smooth margarita, strain it before serving. If you don’t mind a little texture from the jam, you can skip straining entirely.
Can I make these ahead of time?
These are best made fresh, but you can mix the ingredients (without ice) a few hours ahead and store in the fridge. Give it a good shake or stir before serving.
How do I make it less sweet?
Add a little extra fresh lime juice to balance the sweetness of the jam, or use a lower-sugar jam if you have one.
Can I make this into a frozen margarita?
Yes! Just blend the tequila, lime juice, jam, and a handful of ice until smooth for a frozen version.
What’s the best tequila to use?
A good-quality blanco tequila works best for a fresh, bright flavor, but use what you love or have on hand.
Can I make a big batch for a party?
Definitely! Just multiply the ingredients and mix in a pitcher. Stir well before serving and shake individual portions with ice if you can for the best texture.
