This recipe for pizza with pepperoni poblano and hot honey came together so beautifully! Delicious dough, perfectly browned cheese, a kick of peppers, pepperonis and hot honey – the best combination.
I first had a pizza like this at Sorella – a restaurant here in Milwaukee – and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I set out to create my own at-home version and I could not be more thrilled with the end result. Now, if we can’t sneak away for a date night (hard to do with 4 kids!) to Sorella, I’m happy I can create a version at home for Nick and I to enjoy.
What ingredients do I need for this pizza?
Well, almost everything is right there in the recipe title! All you need is:
- Pizza dough – you can used pre-prepared dough or make your own. I used my sourdough pizza crust when recipe testing.
- Pizza sauce – the amount you need for this recipe will depend on the size of your crust and how much sauce you like!
- Mozzarella cheese – a classic staple on any pizza.
- Pepperoni – it makes all the difference to buy thinly sliced (called deli-sliced pepperonis)
- Poblano pepper – the recipe calls for 1 pepper, but you’ll only use about 1/4 of it, sliced very thin.
- Hot Honey – purchase from the store or make your own. More on that below!
As with any pizza, you can get creative and switch up ingredients if needed. My favorite thing to do with this pizza recipe is remove the pepperoni to feed any vegetarians in your life. If you remove the pepperoni, I would add more hot honey at the end to get that little kick.
How do you make pizza with pepperoni poblano and hot honey?
- Roll out pizza dough and put on floured parchment paper. If using a pre-purchased dough, prepare according to package instructions or buy a pre-made circular, thin crust pizza dough.
- Make hot honey if necessary.
- Preheat oven to 475
- Spread sauce on pizza dough. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top. Add poblano peppers over the top.
- Add pepperonis by folding in fours and nestling into pizza, edges up. This gives them a little crisp on the edges when they bake.
- Bake for 10-14 minutes, depending on your oven. Pizza is done when cheese is golden brown.
- Drizzle with hot honey and enjoy!
Once you’ve cooked this pizza to perfect, it’s time to add that tasty hot honey!
I love making dishes with hot honey. It really amps the flavor up and adds just the right amount of spice mixed with sweetness. The best thing is that you can buy a pre-made hot honey or make your own hot honey! If you make your own, you can keeps for up to a year in an airtight container. When it’s time to use your honey, microwave it for 15 seconds if it’s too thick to drizzle.
I’ve had a lot of fun creating pizza recipes in the past and I’m adding this one to my favorites list! A few other great ones to try are listed below:

Yum, yum, yum! We made this for “Pi Day” last night.
We didn’t measure anything (except for the hot honey ingredients), and made two pizzas, which were fabulous!
We’ve been making homemade pizza for about 15 years, but this was my favorite topping combination ever. Thank you so much for sharing!

If there was one thing I’d want people to see in my recipes, it would be that they are like a guide – adaptable and easy (and delicious lol). what a fun pizza! All is familiar to me except, as you might guess, hot honey, really creative ingredient or compound ingredient – super creative way to add the typical dried pepper flakes to a pizza, as I read the recipe for it, so thank you for both the pizza recipe and hot honey one, very impressive!
