I’ve got something fun for you and I’m so excited to share it, a 5 day family meal plan & shopping list! I bet a lot of us are having challenges coming up with creative meals to cook, especially during this time. So my hope is that this 5 day family meal plan and shopping list is helpful for you!
Sometimes coming up with what to cook day in and day out gets exhausting. And since many of us are spending much more time at home, instead of making 1-2 meals a day, you are now probably making 3 fulls meals, plus plenty of snacks. I hope you enjoy this family meal plan and that it will make things a touch easier for you!
I’ve been working on this project for weeks and now seemed like the perfect time to share it. I’ve put together five days of recipes; breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I’ve even included a few snack options to enjoy throughout the week.
To design this 5- day family meal plan, I thought through each day and what foods might compliment each other, make the best leftovers (if there are any), not make you eat eggs four days in a row etc. Plus, these are all things we make in our house weekly so I know they are all delicious and many of them are kid-approved!
HERE ARE THE RECIPES IN THE 5-DAY FAMILY MEAL PLAN
DAY 1
DAY 2
- Quick and healthy breakfast cookies – enjoy with smoothies!
- Ham and Swiss sandwich with maple mustard mayo
- Hot honey baked chicken sheet pan dinner

Our favorite family meal is lasagna. (I use the lazy, no boil recipe that goes together in about 5 minutes!) Everyone loves it & it’s quick and easy!
Sweetphi says
Oh I love the lazy version too!!!
Kate says
Our family favorite probably would be grilled pizza. Followed closely by pulled pork tacos. 🙂
Sweetphi says
Oh yum, both sound amazing!

Hi – Our favorite meal lately is seared tuna steak and Asian inspired potatoes.
We live near the shore in a area with many lively dockside seafood markets and local seafood has been very affordable lately- so much so that we are able to get fresh tuna, lobsters, and scallops for less than chicken and beef at the supermarket! So I have been getting creative with seafood and the family is loving it! It feels great to support the local fishermen (and women) too!
I marinate a fresh tuna steak in a tablespoon of soy sauce, a tablespoon of fresh lime juice and fresh ground pepper for about 10 minutes. Then I sear it for 3-4 minutes per side in a hot pan with a little olive oil and set aside covered to keep warm.
For the potatoes I take tiny fingerlings (they have been a special at my local farm this spring) and slice them in half, drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper and saute until they start to get crispy and a little browned. When they are just about done- I add chopped fresh ginger, garlic and scallions. Toss to get them coated and cook a few minutes to soften the garlic and ginger. Then I shake in a bit of soy sauce and sesame oil.
I cut the tuna into slices and serve with the potatoes and a little wasabi vinaigrette (wasabi paste, honey, olive oil and rice wine vinegar).
It is so delicious I get asked to cook it at least once a week. My daughter calls the potatoes my ‘claim to fame!’ lol!
Sweetphi says
Ok, I’m drooling after reading your amazing creations. That tuna steak – and fresh nonetheless – and those potatoes!!! Thank you for sharing!

Our favorite meal lately is poblano veggie enchiladas. I got a Home Chef box with this as one of the meals – to which my husband said he wasn’t even going to try them because he HATES enchiladas and anything with sauce. Well, I made them for supper thinking I would be the only one to eat them…hubby LOVED them and raved about them so much, I’ve since made them several times and tried out our own variations.
Sweetphi says
Oh yum! You know, I’ve done the exact same thing with Home Chef before, I get something I really love, and then I’ll teak it to be just right but remake it!
Annette says
My favorite family meals is seafood gumbo. Unfortunately, I don’t make it often enough.
Sara Williams says

It’s always so hard to select what our favourite family meal is because it definitely changes monthly!! This month we have been absolutely LIVING for some good Ol’ fashioned cabbage rolls. It’s not only a hearty meal, but also something the whole family can get involved in!!

Have only done it a couple times but the kids and the wife loved it. I replicate Japanese steakhouses night. Starting with a steaming bowl of seasoned chicken stock with thinly sliced mushrooms and thin sliced green onion tops added just before serving to cook slightly yet still have texture. At the same time serving small bowls of basic lettuce salad with some shredded carrots and homemade ginger dressing. In a hot pan, I sear green and yellow squash with sliced onion, garlic, mushroom and a little soy sauce. I use 2 really big KC Strip steaks and some large shrimp that I have mostly already cooked and set to rest. Cut the steak thinly across the grain adding the shrimp and steak to the pan with the veggies, cover to let steam for a couple and serve right from the skillet with a soy based and ginger based dipping sauces. Served with a small bowl of white rice.
Sweetphi says
Oh my goodness, this sounds like such an amazing experience, and what a fun idea!
Dawn H. says

One of my families favorite meals is chicken tacos! The younger kids enjoy the quesadillas I make as well. We usually have some rice, black beans, and of course guacamole!!
Sweetphi says

Alison says
Tacos are one of my favorite meals!

I love pizza night at home. I do a 72 hour cold fermentation on the dough, which I use a bit of yeast and my sourdough starter. The kids have been making up their own pizzas for quite a while now. My oldest son always has chicken barbecue pizza and my youngest mixes it up often. I do a wide range of creations and like to use fresh ingredients when they are available.
Sweetphi says
Oh wow, I love that you do a 72 hour cold fermentation, that sounds amazing!! I’ve just recently started working with sourdough starter so it’s been a very interesting experience.
Linda says
TACO ? NIGHT = FAVORITE ❤️
Sweetphi says
Totally agree!!! We love tacos in our house too!
Aysel says
Thanks a lot for this post – it’s definitely been a huge help with all that’s going on right now. Our favorite family meal – or at least for now! – is probably a simple banana and oatmeal smoothie. The kids enjoy adding coco powder to theirs, so it tastes like ‘chocolate’, but I love the fact that’s it’s really easy to make in the mornings ?
Sweetphi says
Oh that smoothie sounds amazing, thank you for sharing, I’ll have to make that for Breakfast!
Liz says
Thank you for your amazing recipes and ideas, makes cooking all that more fun while I continue to learn how to cook. My favorite so far is a melt in your mouth chicken I learned how to make a couple years back.
Sweetphi says
Thank you for commenting, so happy you enjoy my recipes and ideas 🙂 the melt in your mouth chicken sounds amazing, I’d love to know what’s in it!
Laurajay says
First thanks for your blog and this post, I was needing more ideas, I like cooking but not coming up with new ideas. We are loving 3 chicken meals, (all quick and easy) baked mustard chicken or chicken piccata or chicken marsala with a vegetable(s) and mashed.
Sweetphi says
Thank you for commenting!! And I love the sound of those three meals, they sound amazing!
Kelly Heslip says
We live in Texas so of course Mexican food is our favorite! I make SkinnyTaste’s Chicken Taco Chili (minus the beans) at least once a week, and a local meat market sells chicken fajita meat already cooked and seasoned, so we are having Chicken Fajitas about once a week too! My daughter has started making tortillas (thanks for the tip on the shrinking dough…we’ll try to let it sit longer next time and see if that works), so once those are made (usually in the morning of the day we have this dinner), it’s a quick meal to put together.
Sweetphi says
I love Ginas (Skinnytaste) recipes too, I’ll have to try the chili, that’s one I haven’t made yet, sounds delicious!
Monica M says
One of my favorite meals is grilled chicken, and grilled veggies (or roasted, depending on the weather).
